What you will be doing in this role:

The Associate Director, Strategy is responsible for evaluating, analyzing, and making recommendations on new business development opportunities and strategic plans. The Associate Director, Strategy is responsible for management of various projects including facilitation of the work of internal and external teams that create business and strategic plans. Work team members generally include key physician leaders and operations management. This role supervises strategy managers, associates and analysts assigned to the project. There is also significant interaction with the leadership of the Medical Center and the Medical Delivery Network in support of overall strategic and development opportunities. This position also assists the Executive Director with ensuring quality and consistency of business plans and products presented to senior management. Primary duties include:

  • Manages a team of experienced strategy managers, associates, and analysts on a project specific basis. Supports the team’s continued development and success and elevates the quality of their work. 
  • Provides overall project management including facilitation of multi-discipline work teams. Oversees strategy projects and activities including the development and completion of business plans, detailed market assessments, evaluating of operational needs for new programs, services and technology, including staffing requirements and capital needs.
  • Leads development of financial analyses, including pro-formas for new and/or existing programs, services, and healthcare technology using standard acceptable methodologies to evaluate new business opportunities. Identifies and retrieves data and converts into information required to make decisions on new business development opportunities.
  • Effectively manages collaborators and serves as thought partner for Executive Directors and Vice Presidents across the enterprise around strategic work, including gathering inputs, synthesizing ideas, gaining consensus, and helping to drive decisions. 
  • Provides staff support for Department Managers and Directors, Service Line Vice Presidents, Clinical Chairs, and key physician groups, both within the Medical Center and the Medical Delivery Network on special business development projects.
  • Effectively communicates findings and recommendations to senior leaders across the academic system with executive presence. Builds cohesive storylines including the development of materials with clear narratives and compelling visuals for senior audiences (e.g., Executive team, Board).
  • Works with strategy managers, associates, and analysts and operations staff to convert business analyses into implementation plans in a variety of different clinical settings to ensure successful implementation of a portfolio of key strategic projects (i.e., inpatient and outpatient hospital, physician office).
  • Leads and/or facilitates multi-partner working groups within the Medical Center and the Medical Delivery Network in the development of business, operations or strategic plans.
  • Provides consulting assistance as required to operations staff during and after implementation of new programs, services, etc. Directs review analyses of programs and compares their results to business plans and/or budgeting targets.
  • Contributes to the strategy development by monitoring, evaluating and providing information on key market trends resulting from changing healthcare legislation, on local and national trends regarding third party reimbursement, and on new technology that could impact the way in which care is provided.
  • Develops and completes business plans on their own on a project specific basis.
  • Occasionally provides staff support for Department Managers and Directors, Service Line Vice Presidents, Clinical Chairs, and key physician groups, both within the Medical Center and the Medical Delivery Network on special business development projects.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Course work should include planning, finance, marketing, accounting, information systems and business strategy. MBA, MPH, MBA, MPH, or MPA preferred.
  • A minimum of eight years of previous planning, finance, and/or business development experience in a healthcare organization or consulting organization providing services to the healthcare industry required.
