Healing, helping and comforting others is who you are. For more than 100 years, our nurses have worked as an integral part of the Los Angeles community to help deliver newborns to celebrate the completion of chemotherapy. For each of our patients’ big moments in life, our team was by their sides.

Earning Magnet status

This passion for care shows. Cedars-Sinai recently earned our sixth consecutive Magnet designation for nursing excellence, making us the hospital with the longest-running Magnet designation in the state of California.

Training more nurses

We treat diverse communities, each with unique needs. That’s why we’re focused on meeting the demand for specialty nurses. In The Geri and Richard Brawerman Nursing Institute, we provide clinical training for nurses and offer over 100 continuing education courses each year.

Treating depression in new ways

More than 6 years ago, we implemented one of the country’s first hospital-wide depression screening programs. Within 24 hours of admission, our nurses screened adult patients for symptoms. And we just extended this program to include postpartum depression screenings. Maternal Mental Health NOW, a local organization we partnered with, helped train nurses to spot signs of postpartum depression in new mothers and talk to them about ways to get help and treatment.

That’s why, in 2002, Cedars-Sinai founded the Geri and Richard Brawerman Nursing Institute to provide an educational platform for our nurses.

Our generous operational and endowed grant funds, allow us to offer financial assistance and free education programs to Cedars-Sinai employees, including advanced training for specialized roles such as nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist and certified midwife.

The result is one of the most highly trained nursing workforces in the country. More than three-quarters of our direct-care nurses have a specialty certification, while eight out of 10 have a bachelor’s of science in nursing or a master’s degree.
