What you will be doing in this role:
The Senior Communications Specialist develops and implements strategic communications plans and activities to promote and support Cedars-Sinai's employee- and patient-facing initiatives. Plays a key role in identifying strategic, innovative news, feature and communications ideas for various communications channels; writes and develop stories, collateral materials and other contents; edits written materials and projects including a variety of news, feature and science writing for external and internal audiences; and assists in the production of internal and external publications and updates.
Collaborates and works cross-functionally with internal collaborators in Marketing and Communications as well as with external partners throughout Cedars-Sinai. Works collaboratively with other members of the team to manage priorities, workflows and shared responsibilities to deliver wide range of assets. Primary duties include:
- Responsible for leading and/or supporting strategic communications projects and initiatives to further Cedars-Sinai's organizational priorities as well as external and internal communications goals.
- Writes, edits, and publishes content for Cedars-Sinai staff, medical staff and patients, including but not limited to news and feature stories, FAQs and talking points, memos and announcements, collateral copy, blog posts, collateral content website copy. Ensures all copy and content are clear, well-written, grammatically correct and factually accurate.
- Develops and implements creative ideas, prepare and refine content for Cedars-Sinai Newsroom and social media sites, broadcast news outlets and internal channels as needed.
- Provides instructions and guidance to in-house and freelance writers in best practices to maintain highest quality standards and accuracy in regard to content quality, appropriateness for designated platform or medium, and ensure that all content is compliant with Cedars-Sinai brand standards.
- Collaborates closely with internal partners in Marketing and Communications as well as with external collaborators throughout Cedars-Sinai to promote high-value stories and communications, in support of departmental and organizational strategic priorities.
- Establishes and maintains effective relationships and processes with all internal cross-functional partners to effectively execute on collaboration needs. Interacts with physicians, research investigators, operations staff, patients and others in a professional and responsive manner, protecting patient privacy in all facets of work.
- Contributes to crisis communications response and on-call duty, as needed.
Qualifications
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, marketing or a related field required.
A minimum of 5 years of experience writing, editing, developing and delivering in-depth content or related communications experience required.
Proven experience of at least 5 years in an academic medical center, hospital or healthcare, broadcast news, nonprofit or and/or foundation experience preferred.
