Job Description

Join Cedars-Sinai Cancer during a transformational period of growth and impact. Cedars-Sinai is a hub for biomedical research with over $200M in extramural research grant funding. Cedars-Sinai Cancer is looking for nationally recognized investigators to join our faculty in the Cancer Biology (CB) Program as we continue to grow.

We are seeking collaborative individuals with an active research program in the broad discipline of cancers. Applicants are required to have a strong track record of scholarship, evidenced by independent cancer research funding and peer-reviewed publications. As such, individuals with active research programs in the following related areas are encouraged to apply:

  • sex as a biological variable
  • metabolism
  • cancer immunology
  • microbiota
  • discovery and development 


The Cancer Biology (CB) program at Cedars-Sinai Cancer invites applications for full-time faculty members at the full, associate or assistant professor level. Academic rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Cancer Biology program:

•   Currently includes 73 program members who have expertise in basic cancer research with a strong emphasis on translational development. 
•   Fosters a collaborative and multidisciplinary research environment in which members have access to exceptional, state-of-the-art core facilities and the single cell innovation center, training grants and clinical scholars’ programs, developmental funds.
•   Maintains robust interaction with related research programs including the outstanding Cancer Prevention and Control and Cancer Therapeutics programs, and a formal network of hospital affiliations serving the Greater Los Angeles area. 
•   Strengths include:

o    Genes on sex chromosomes that drive bladder cancer
o    Impacts of cross-sex hormone therapy on breast oncogenic pathways of transgender individuals
o    The contribution of obesity in liver cancer
o    The role of extracellular vesicles in cancer metastasis
o    The identification of biomarkers driving aggressive prostate cancer and therapeutic vulnerability
o    Utility of patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cell technology to identify contributors of cancer in high-risk populations
o    Novel mouse models of glioblastoma and other cancers driven by patient-derived mutations
o    Uncovering biological barriers to conventional therapies for the development of novel therapeutic delivery strategies. 
o    Participates in the Molecular Twin Initiative and the omiCSearch are outstanding institutional resources with annotated blood and tumor biospecimens from >5,000 patients with cancer.

In addition to a large patient population within the Cedars Sinai Cancer Clinical Programs, the Greater Los Angeles and its surrounding communities comprise one of the largest and most diverse populations in the United States. This includes Hispanic/Latinx, Filipinx, Korean, African American, Jewish American, LGBTQ  and non-Hispanic White communities – each with unique cancer burdens and unaddressed cancer research needs. As the CB program grows, priority areas for faculty recruitment are focused on identifying individuals whose research is positioned to address the immediate and future cancer needs of these communities.

Academic Research

Physicians and scientists at Cedars-Sinai are actively engaged in translational research to bring medical advancements directly from the laboratory to the bedside. 


Our Compensation Philosophy 

We offer competitive total compensation that includes pay, benefits, and other incentive programs for our employees. The total pay range shown takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including knowledge/skills; relevant experience and training; education/certifications/licensure; and other business and organizational factors. This total pay range includes any incentive payments that may be applicable to this role. We also offer a comprehensive faculty benefits package.
Pay range $130,000-290,000


Qualifications

We invite candidates with strength in any research area broadly defined by cancer biology to apply. 
Position Requirements:
· PhD, MD/PhD, or an MD with an accompanying experience
· Demonstrated excellence in cancer research of high scientific impact and translation
· A track record of peer-reviewed publications
· Active cancer relevant peer-reviewed funding
