What will you be doing in this role?

The Associate Director of Admissions/Patient Access has the overall responsibility of directly managing a team to include Supervisor(s), Team Lead(s), and assigned staff. It is the expectation that the Associate Director will coordinate efforts and ensure effective and productive workflow in the Admissions/Patient Access department. In this capacity, the Associate Director must plan, develop, implement, and monitor effective Patient Access policies and procedures for effective utilization of resources. The Associate Director is responsible for ensuring that the department directives are implemented to ensure a high level of data integrity and patient satisfaction.

The Associate Director is responsible for the development, recommendation and implementation of business operations plans, accountable for quality and safe service, expense control and effective management of capital and human resources for all the services within the division. In this role, the Associate Director will participate in supporting the CSMC revenue cycle strategies, and manage relationships with all business partners. 

The Associate Director will be held responsible for adherence to a departmental budget set forth by the Executive Director, as well as keeping abreast of all state and federal laws related to the revenue cycle. Responsibilities include:

  • Oversees the strategic plans of the department, develops new programs, initiatives and activities; Manages the operations, staff and fiscal responsibilities of the Admissions/Patient Access Department.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal and external collaborators to promote the revenue cycle programs in order to gain support from the partners – both clinical and financial.
  • Ensures that the Admissions/Patient Access Department is adhering to The Joint Commission requirements and that The Joint Commission requirements are met and that the department is providing quality training and orientation to all employees at every level. Further, the Associate Director is responsible to see that the department is compliant with obtaining health clearances and documentation of completion of fire and safety classes.
  • Mentors and guides employees within the Admissions/Patient Access Department, including acclimating new leaders at the medical center on Patient Access functions, on CSMC culture and mission.
  • Provides direct oversight of experienced professionals, to include Supervisors and Team Leads.
  • Oversees management to ensure adherence to operational policies and procedures.
  • Represents the Admissions/Patient Access Department on behalf of the Executive Director, in their absence, to include meetings, email responses, etc.
  • Provides additional support to Executive Director including budget preparation, fiscal responsibility, operational efficacy and performance improvement.
  • Maintains an extensive knowledge of required information platforms, to include, CSLink (EPIC) or other designated Electronic Health Record (EHR), third-party payor platforms, and management information systems.
  • Collaborates with appropriate departments, including Patient Financial Services, Revenue Integrity, Enterprise Information Systems (EIS), and appropriate clinical units to improve workflows to reduce denials and ensure revenue cycle optimization.
  • Oversees the Admissions/Patient Access continuum, including front-end registration, scheduling activities, and insurance prior authorization initiation/financial clearance.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED required. Bachelor's degree in healthcare management, healthcare administration, business administration, business management, or a related major  preferred.
  • A minimum of 8 years of Hospital Revenue Cycle Administration experience required.
  • A minimum of 5 years Management/Supervisory experience of direct reports within a department, service-line and or related required.
  • Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) required.
