What will you be doing in this role?

As a Patient Mobility Specialist at Cedars-Sinai, you will take a leadership role in the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of education programs/projects related to Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM) initiatives for patients, personnel, and the community across the healthcare continuum. You will work closely with the nursing staff to implement and ensure the appropriate lifting techniques and machinery for patients are being applied. Your responsibilities will include providing education that is consistent with California legislative code AB 1136 for safe patient handling, as well as other relevant standards and guidelines. Additionally, you will identify safety concerns and institute measures to provide a safe environment and prevent patient and staff injury.

Assist the team in completing diverse tasks to optimize operational efficiency.

  • Develop curriculum for safe patient handling training and equipment
  • Provide and document usage of safe patient handling equipment
  • Provide experienced care and patient education on safe patient handling equipment
  • Respond to requests from nursing staff within 15 minutes
  • Support and assist special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Identify patient's readiness for learning and ability to receive instructions and give consent
  • Make special adjustments as required to meet the specific population needs
  • Adhere to CSMC policy for Safe Patient Handling and relevant legislative requirements
  • Collaborate with the nursing team to determine patient's current mobility level and provide input on the type of equipment to use
  • Advocate for a "no manual lifting" culture in the medical center
  • Perform department rounding to ensure equipment and linens availability and functionality
  • Perform all other assigned duties
  • Collaborate to problem solve and make decisions to achieve desired outcomes
  • Establish effective working relationships with cross-functional teams
  • Respond timely and effectively to deliverables
  • Share knowledge and expertise to assist other team members
  • Cultivate and maintain strong customer relationships and rapport
  • Ensure practices and procedures are inclusive of interpersonal and cultural diversity
  • Identify and respond appropriately to both internal and external customer needs
  • Represent the company with external constituents

Qualifications

You'll be successful with the following qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED (Bachelor's Degree highly preferred)
  • Three (3) years of experience in direct patient care (EMT, CNA, Lift Team, patient education preferred)
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BCLS) approved by the American Heart Association
  • Expertise with lift equipment and devices to mobilize patients safely
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory, curriculum development, outcome study methodology, data management implementation, and evaluation
  • Willingness to actively engage in opportunities for continuous learning, such as attending conferences, workshops, and relevant training sessions.
