Job Description
The Manager, Special Pathogens, under the supervision of the Executive Director for the Office of the Chief Medical Officer and the Infection Control Officer, is responsible for managing the federally funded Emerging Special Pathogens Regional Treatment Center at Cedars Sinai, including but not limited to the coordination, direction, and oversight of daily operations. In collaboration with the Program's Medical Director, the Manager is responsible for ensuring organizational readiness and preparedness to care for highly infectious diseases or other diseases of high consequence.
Primary Duties & ResponsibilitiesResponsible for all Emerging Special Pathogens Regional Treatment Center Program operations at Cedars Sinai, including the achievement of goals and objectives. Facilitates the development and implementation of short and long range goals and objectives for the department, which are realistic, objectively measurable, and parallel the hospital's institutional plan.
Manages federal grant funds and is accountable for meeting grant deliverables to maintain treatment center status. Initiates proposed changes in systems, programs, and daily operations to advance the Emerging Special Pathogens program. Monitors effectiveness of these changes and reports on the activities of the department.
Monitors program and maintains systems to ensure appropriate governance and program compliance with local, state, and federal laws; accreditation, professional and regulatory agency standards, and licensure requirements. Develops and maintains policies & procedures.
Develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates didactic & simulation education for program staff and volunteer members, including planning and oversight of regular preparedness drills.
Oversees and plans educational programs and serves as a subject matter expert on topics related to emerging infectious disease and pandemic response.
Leads and facilitates internal and external multidisciplinary teams and key stakeholders in the management and growth of the program.
Conducts outreach and partners with local, state, & federal stakeholders involved in Ebola and emerging diseases response efforts.
Manages department professional and support staff in the day to day accomplishment of tasks to meet established goals and objectives.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Emergency Management, Environmental Safety, Nursing, or related field required.
- Master’s degree Public Health, Emergency Management, Environmental Safety, Nursing, or related field preferred.
Experience and Skills:
- 5 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare infection control or epidemiology required
Physical Demands:
- Perform continuous operation of a personal computer for four hours or more.
Use hands and fingers to handle and manipulate objects and/or operate equipment
