Job Description

Release the power of precise proteomics at Cedars-Sinai!

Join us as a scientist in cutting-edge quantitative proteomics to commercialize assay workflows and biomarkers for the diagnosis and treatment of human diseases and preventive health. Precision Biomarkers Laboratories (PBL) at Cedar-Sinai, is seeking a candidate with comprehensive experience in the development of novel, high performance quantitative mass spectrometry workflows for proteins, including post-translation modifications (PTM’s). You will have access to state-of-the-art LC-MS platforms (Thermo Exploris480, Thermo Astral, Sciex 6500+, Bruker tims-TOF) enabling quantitative proteomic profiling and development of assays using both high- and low- resolution techniques. This position requires an individual with outstanding technical skills and scientific experience as well as excellent communication and collaborative skills. The individual must be able to work in a fast-paced clinical and product development environment to translate insights using proteomics into biomarker hypotheses that can be verified in large cohort studies.

Department-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Direct experience developing state-of-the-art proteomic workflows, developing technology, and working independently.
  • Experience across the entire proteomic workflow from sample prep to data analysis.
  • In-depth understanding of various quantitation technologies including PRM and DIA, and their clinical applications.
  • Strong theoretical understanding of protein biochemistry and practical knowledge of bottom-up proteomics.
  • Hands-on experience with Thermo and Sciex mass spectrometry platforms.
  • Familiarity with mass spectrometry analysis software (vendor-specific and open source).
  • Extensive experience in instrumentation, troubleshooting, QC, standardization for proteomics workflow, and pipeline development.
  • Demonstrated scientific productivity and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines.
  • Willingness to think outside of the box to drive the implementation of innovative proteomic workflows that align with the business unit objectives.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or related science/engineering field required. Doctorate, preferred.

Experience and Skills:

  • Five (5) years experience in mass spectrometry driven proteomics, especially in areas directly applying to human health.
  • Experience with laboratory automation is desirable.
  • Previous industry experience is advantageous.
  • Demonstration of subject matter expertise through study designs and superior technical customer service is desirable.
  • Coding skills (R, Python) for data analysis, and the ability to use/evaluate open-source software packages for processing mass spectrometry data are preferred.
