Position Overview:

Cedars-Sinai Hospital seeks a dedicated and compassionate Mechanical Circulatory Support Coordinator to join our esteemed transplant team. In this critical role, you will coordinate comprehensive care for patients with Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs) and Total Artificial Hearts (TAHs). You will work at the forefront of cardiac care, addressing patient needs throughout the treatment continuum while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Management:  

  • Develop and implement care plans for patients undergoing VAD or TAH treatment, from pre-transplant evaluation to post-operative follow-up.  
  • Educate patients and their caregivers on device management, medication regimens, lifestyle changes, and emergency procedures.  
  • Provide continuous support and counseling to enhance the emotional well-being of patients and families throughout their journey.

Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration:

  • Collaborate closely with cardiologists, surgeons, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, and other specialists to ensure seamless patient care.  
  • Facilitate effective communication between team members and act as a liaison for patients and their families.  

Program Development and Maintenance:  

  • Contribute to the ongoing development, implementation, and enhancement of the LVAD and heart transplant program.  
  • Create and update patient education materials, clinical protocols, and relevant policies and procedures.

Regulatory Compliance and Quality Improvement:  

  • Ensure adherence to regulatory standards, including DNV, CMS, and Joint Commission requirements.  
  • Participate in quality assessment and performance improvement initiatives to elevate program standards and patient outcomes.

Additional Duties:  

  • Coordinate and facilitate research initiatives related to VADs and heart transplantation.  
  • Serve as a resource for referring physicians, community health professionals, and emergency responders.  
  • Participate in on-call responsibilities, providing vital patient support as needed.

Qualifications

Qualifications:  

  • A Bachelor's degree in nursing; advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., CCRN, CCTC) are required or willing to obtain within one (1) year from start date.  
  • Previous experience in cardiology, transplant coordination, or an ICU surgical heart clinical setting is highly desirable.  
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a passion for patient advocacy and education.  
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment while managing multiple tasks and responsibilities.
