Postdoctoral Scientist - Division of Rheumatology / Department of Medicine
Job Description
Are you looking to contribute to groundbreaking research? This is a great opportunity for you!
Cedars-Sinai is an international leader in biomedical research, we translate discoveries into successful treatments with global impact.
Principal Investigator, Dr. Richard Ainsworth, PhD is looking for a Postdoctoral Scientist to join his dynamic team!
The primary focus of the Ainsworth lab is the development of integrative systems biology methods for multi-omics data. The lab has specific interests in transcriptional dysregulation and aberrant signaling in autoimmune disorders, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Scleroderma, and Lupus, and we are working to gain new insights into disease mechanisms.
About the Role
We are looking for a driven individual who has expertise in innate immune signaling and/or immunometabolism who is interested in translating their knowledge to help better understand the immunopathology of Lupus. Using mouse models or primary human patient specimens our goals are to understand how RNA/DNA sensing pathways and the proteins that regulate them contribute to Lupus pathology. Secondly, we are interested in determining how immunometabolic reprogramming contributes to epigenetic changes in Lupus immune cells and how we can use this knowledge to restore immune homeostasis. Focus will be on using next-generation sequencing, proteomics and advanced imaging to address each of these questions.
Working independently but in close collaboration and in consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientist, the Postdoctoral Scientist will perform routine and sophisticated laboratory procedures throughout this training period. The incumbent may develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- May assist in preparation of grant proposals but is not responsible for generating grant funds.
- May participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
- Designs and performs experiments.
- Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyze the results.
- Analyzes, interprets, summarizes, and compiles data.
- Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.
Qualifications
Education:
Doctorate (MD, PhD, VMD, or DDS) in area related to field of research specialization.
Experience:
- Works independently on research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within area of specialization.
- Applicants will ideally have a strong expertise in cellular and molecular immunology with an interest in the role of RNA/DNA sensors or immunometabolism in driving inflammation.
- Proficiency in data analysis approaches using Python or R is desirable.
- Demonstrated aptitude to apply molecular biology and cell biology techniques to solve complex questions and become proficient in and apply new technologies to these questions as required.
- Acquires complete technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment.
