Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The Respiratory Therapist II is a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) who performs general ward therapy RT procedures including: 02 therapy, bland aerosol therapy, medicinal aerosol therapy, volume expansion therapy, bronchial hygiene procedures, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). A respiratory therapist also performs Adult Critical Care RT procedures including: setup and management of continuous invasive and non-invasive ventilator systems, specialty gases, and related monitoring and supportive adjuncts. Training in performance of Arterial Puncture for Blood Gas Analysis, as well as working in the emergency department is required. The respiratory therapist II may pursue additional training in all "subspecialty services" provided by the CSMDRH Respiratory Care Services to include: Bronchoscopy Assist. Once training is complete, a respiratory therapist is expected to function as assigned in the subspecialty areas in which he/she has been trained and adjudged functionally competent.
- Performs general ward therapy RT procedures including setup and monitoring of: free flow 02 systems; pulse oximeters; bland aerosols systems; medicinal aerosol systems; volume expansion techniques/devices; bronchial hygiene techniques/devices; CPR.
- Management of adult ventilator systems including: setup and management of continuous invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilator systems, specialty gases and related monitoring and supportive adjuncts. Performs arterial puncture for blood gas analysis per approved policy and procedure.
- Obtaining & interpretation of Arterial Blood Gas (ABG).
- Ability to work independently in the emergency departments.
- Ability to manage patient care workload in critical care & non-critical care areas.
- Set up, administer and troubleshoot inhaled vasodilator agents.
- Perform Electrocardiogram (EKG) and Ziopatch procedures.
- Other duties and functions as delegated by the respiratory department leadership.
- TRAINING BASED OPTION--Performance of capillary heelstick venipunctures for blood gas analysis per approved policy and procedure and as appropriate to shift need.
- TRAINING BASED OPTION--Performance of bronchoscopy assist procedures per approved service section protocols and as appropriate to shift need.
- TRAINING BASED OPTION--Pediatric and Neonatal emergency department RT procedures.
- Observation, guidance and peer evaluation of new employees & RT students as assigned and as related to general care ward and adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU) RT procedures and adult ventilator management procedures.
- Other duties as applied.
Qualifications
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy preferred
- Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field required
License/Certifications:
- Must be currently licensed by the State of California as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP.)
- Current BLS certification (required)
- ACLS certification
- PALS certification
- RRT Certification
Experience:
- One year acute care experience preferred
- Two years Respiratory Therapist experience required

Our compensation philosophy
We offer a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base pay range shown generally applies to the greater Los Angeles area and may vary based on work location. Our range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including knowledge/skills: relevant experience and training, education/certifications/licensure; and other business and organizational factors.
