About the Role
The Registration Associate performs all admissions activities for pre-admit and face-to-face registration of patients presenting to the Main Admissions and/or outpatient areas for treatment. The incumbent facilitates patient access to Marina del Rey Hospital and secures all demographic and financial patient registration information which includes the following: Registration, Pre-Registration, insurance verification, Third Party Liability (TPL) screening, Medi-Cal/Medicare eligibility verification, Workers Compensation eligibility, and securing cash deposits (co-pays, deductibles, cash packages). The Registration Associate explains information and answers questions, demonstrates competency skills including the ability to perform job duties, and interacts with customers with sensitivity and attention to the patient population(s) served.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Obtains financial clearance and determines patient's accurate financial classification. Performs insurance verification electronically, telephonically, DDE or product website use on Medicare, Medicaid, HMO, PPO or commercial products.
- Performs proper system search to secure a medical record number or assign a new one without redundancy. Consistently follows CSMDRH Patient Identification Policy when assigning and verifying MRN.
- Performs proper selection of physician. Recognizes privileging issues (physician suspensions). Performs initial (basic) steps on physician suspensions.
- Explains patient financial obligation (deductibles) and collect funds to meet individual and department cash collection goals.
- Explains admit and consent forms to the patient and acquires necessary signatures.
- Demonstrates the ability to assemble the admitting and financial paperwork for inclusion on the patient chart in accordance with regulatory and CS Marina hospital requirements.
- Demonstrates proficiency regarding navigation and entering patient and financial information in the hospital ADT system and associated systems.
- Scans all appropriate documents into the scanning system for retrieval as appropriate.
- Works and resolves error work-list daily and without exception.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED (preferred).
- Associate's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field (preferred).
- 1 year of customer service experience preferably in a healthcare setting (required).
- 2 years of healthcare revenue cycle experience (preferred).
- Knowledge of Passport, HDX and other online verification systems (preferred).
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Medical Terminology.
