Job Description

As a new grad Registered Nurse I, you will provide direct and indirect patient care in the acute care setting. Your role is to communicate with physicians/Nursing Unit Director/Charge Nurses/co-workers as appropriate about changes in patient’s clinical condition. This includes hemodynamic monitoring, results of diagnostic studies, and symptomatology. The ideal candidate will be able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.

  • All nurse residents will start in the Float Pool for the period of the precepted shifts (approximately 4-5 months).
  • Near the end of the precepted shifts, vacant positions will be assigned to the new grads. Some will be Days, some Nights, some on one of the four Med-Surg/Tele/Ortho units, and some in the Float Pool. The number of each available position will be based on vacancies at that time and the ability to spread out the skill mix. There is no guarantee of any particular unit or shift.
  • The precepted shifts are based on the preceptor's availability.
  • We will work with the selected new grads for life events (graduations, weddings, etc.) but we really need all new hires to be open to any schedule/shift/unit for the precepted shifts during the first 4-5 months.

Please note, a portion of training and classes will be on Day shift. There may be a Day shift openings, but candidates must be able to work Nights. The first 5 months of the program require flexibility with very limited time off requests. The schedules are based on the preceptor availability to give our nurse residents optimal support throughout the program.

Overall, the training programs will be approximately 12 months of hands-on and classroom training, as well as being paired up with a seasoned RN Preceptor. Key highlights:

  • The Vizient/AACN Residency Program is a year-long program that meets best practice recommendations to successfully support new graduate nurses as they transition to professional practice.
  • There will be monthly seminars that combine didactic learning with hands-on skills training and group discussions.
  • There is an evidence-based practice project that nurse residents will complete over the twelve months focusing on a topic that is pertinent to your unit.
  • You will have dedicated site and system residency coordinators to support you throughout the program and beyond.
