Job Description

The Department of Computational Biomedicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center applies quantitative, statistical, and data-science methods to address clinical and population health research questions. This internship offers a structured, hands-on educational experience in epidemiologic research, with a focus on cancer outcomes and population-based data.

The intern will engage in applied research using real-world cancer datasets and will be supported through close mentorship, collaborative learning, and exposure to the full research lifecycle—from hypothesis development to dissemination of findings.

Learning Objectives

This internship is designed to provide practical training and professional development in epidemiologic and data-driven research. Key learning objectives include:

  • Gaining hands-on experience working with large, population-based cancer datasets (e.g., national cancer incidence databases)
  • Developing skills in hypothesis formulation, study design, and applied statistical analysis
  • Interpreting research findings within a clinical and population health context
  • Strengthening scientific writing skills through contributions to manuscripts and research outputs
  • Understanding best practices in reproducible and ethical research
Key Responsibilities

Under direct mentorship, the intern will:

  • Assist with data cleaning, management, and statistical analysis
  • Conduct literature reviews to support research questions and contextualize findings
  • Prepare tables, figures, and summaries of analytic results
  • Contribute to manuscript drafting and other scholarly or research deliverables
  • Participate in regular mentorship meetings and collaborative discussions
Program Structure & Timeline
  • Duration: February 2026 – June 2026 (with possible extension)
  • Time Commitment: Approximately 12 hours per week
  • Mentorship: Weekly one-on-one meetings with a faculty mentor, with ongoing guidance throughout the internship
  • Format: Educational, project-based internship emphasizing skill development and research collaboration

This internship is ideal for students interested in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, data science, or cancer research who are seeking meaningful exposure to real-world biomedical research in an academic medical center setting


Qualifications

This role is designed to be 100% onsite, giving you the opportunity to collaborate closely with your team and immerse yourself in the energy of our workplace. Please note that hybrid or remote work options are NOT available for this position at this time.

Required Education & Experience

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have a HS Diploma or GED.
  • Must reside in the greater Los Angeles area or surrounding cities while conducting all activities related to the intern or visitor appointment.
  • INTERNS: Those participating for academic credit must receive academic credit for the duration of the internship.
  • VISITORS: Must be receiving funding from an eligible sponsoring institution (employer, educator, funder, etc.).
