Weeks 1-2:
- Introduction to clinical research methodologies.
- Orientation to the project goals, objectives, and expectations.
- Learn how to conduct literature reviews.
- Guidance on refining research questions and objectives.
- Introduction to database creation and management.
Weeks 2-4:
- Assistance in data collection processes, using previously gathered datasets.
- Training on data cleaning techniques.
- Collaboration with Clinical Research Specialist Cristabelle Alexander on data management protocols.
- Introduction to statistical analysis.
Weeks 4-6:
- Guidance on manuscript preparation for publication.
- Learning the components of an abstract and manuscript.
- Preparation of abstracts for submission to regional and national meetings.
- Close collaboration with Dr. Illingworth on manuscript refinement and preparation.
- Weekly meetings with Dr. Illingworth for project review, mentorship, and discussion on clinical research fundamentals and project-specific details.
Weeks 1-6:
- Regular communication and collaboration with direct supervisor Cristabelle Alexander for project oversight and guidance.
- Mentorship sessions with Dr. Kenneth Illingworth to discuss project progress, research methodologies, and career development in clinical research.
- Access to resources and support for navigating the internship experience effectively.
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have a HS Diploma or GED.
- Must reside in the greater Los Angeles area or surrounding cities while conducting all activities related to the intern or visitor appointment.
- INTERNS: Those participating for academic credit must receive academic credit for the duration of the internship.
VISITORS: Must be receiving funding from an eligible sponsoring institution (employer, educator, funder, etc.).4
Preferred: Bachelor's degree and current medical students are encouraged to apply.
