Pulmonary Rehab treats adult patients with chronic pulmonary disease. Patients range from pre-and post-op lung volume reduction surgery and lung transplant patients to chronic lung disease patients with moderate, severe and very severe disease/dysfunction. After an initial assessment, patients participate in a personalized program for 6 to 9 weeks to help them overcome the limits caused by a variety of lung diseases. Sessions include cardiovascular exercises and weight training to improve strength and endurance as well as education. Patients undergo continuous telemetry monitoring throughout the session. The Pulmonary Rehab Team is comprised of a Medical Director, Clinical Nurse III, Clinical Exercise Physiologists and a Patient Service Representative.

A Clinical Nurse III (CN III) in the Pulmonary Rehab Department, is an experienced nurse who possess an in depth knowledge in all aspects of nursing care for Pulmonary patient population. 

As a Clinical Nurse III you are responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process and the delivery of patient care for the specialty patient population. You will also;

  • Responsibilities are achieved through three spheres of influence: client, personnel, and organizational systems.
  • A critical component of the CN III is to generate and evaluate evidence for practice.
  • The CN III works collaboratively to provide guidance, direction and assistance to the health care team to maintain and provide optimum quality care to a population with pulmonary diseases.
  • Evaluate patients for their eligibility to participate in the program (i.e., interviews for relevant facts concerning the client’s social, occupational, functional and medical status)
  • Plan and implement individualized patient treatment plans. 
  • Assess the learning needs of patients regarding proactive self-care strategies (i.e., upper extremity exercises breathing, retraining exercises, diet modification, performance to bronchial hygiene, use of metered-dose inhalers, use of hand-held nebulizer, patient compliance with prescribed home therapy). Individual instructional sessions are scheduled as needed.
  • Provide patient education on appropriate restorative measures and lifestyle modifications to optimize  quality of life while managing their own unique disease process.
  • Provide and accurately document direct and indirect patient care services that ensures the safety, comfort, and protection of patients in a timely manner.
  • Observe and assess signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to medications/treatments, general behavior, and/or general physical condition to determine normal versus abnormal characteristics and initiate emergency procedures when indicated.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and the ability to identify and make special adjustments as required to the specific populations' needs, including cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family and condition needs.

Qualifications

Education:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program required
BSN preferred
License/Certifications:
Current, unrestricted California RN License required
CCRN, Cardiac RN or other specialty certification required or willing to acquire within one year from start date
ACLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
Experience:
A minimum of 3 years of acute care nursing experience required
