Principal Investigator, Peter Heeger, MD, is looking for a Project Scientist to join the team!
Dr. Peter Heeger is the Director of the Transplant Immunology Program. The lab group focuses mechanisms of pancreatic diseases including pancreatic cancer, diabetes, and pancreatitis. The work often involves other organs including the liver. The role requires experience in molecular and cell biology and biochemistry. The position requires use of animal experimentation to develop models of inflammation and cancer in pancreas as well as cellular and in vitro systems. Specific projects that might be undertaken by a new postdoc in this laboratory include studies of the roles of human trypsin mutants in chronic pancreatitis, of the unfolded protein response in pancreatic cancer, or on the emergence of diabetes in the context of acute and chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer. Expertise in animal models, genomics and/or proteomics especially that involving the pancreas will be advantageous.
The Project Scientist works independently and in cooperation with the Principal Investigator to make significant and creative contributions to a research or creative project in any academic field. The position may be an ongoing member of a research team or may be employed for a limited period of time to contribute high-level skills to a specific research program. This role is not required to carry out independent research or to develop an independent research reputation and do not have teaching responsibilities. Ordinarily, this position will carry out research or creative programs as well as administration of day-to-day lab operations with supervision by a member of the Professorial Series.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- May assist in preparation of grant proposals, submissions, publications, and presentations but is not responsible for generating grant funds.
- May serve as PI for certain grants.
- May participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
- May develop, adapt and implement new techniques and protocols.
- Assists in lab experiments, analyzes, interprets, summarizes, and compiles data.
- May lead or train Staff Research Associates and Research Fellows.
- Appointees on an academic trajectory will be encouraged to commit a portion of their time to developing an independent range of research.
Qualifications
Education:
- PhD or highest degree in their field, required.
- Demonstrated significant, original, and creative contributions to a research program.
Experience and Skills:
- Completion of postdoctoral appointment in area of specialization, as applicable.
- Knowledge of PI’s area of research specialization.
- Demonstrated technical competency in a variety of research techniques and protocols.
