Dr. Piotr Slomka, PhD is looking for a Programmer/Analyst to join a diverse team!

The Slomka Laboratory focuses on developing innovative methods for fully automated analysis of nuclear cardiology data using novel algorithms and machine learning techniques, and on the development of integrated motion-corrected analysis of positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) angiography imaging.

The Programmer/Analyst (Research Software Engineer) is a key contributor to the AIM Program research team. Under the supervision of Principal Investigator and Research Scientist Piotr Slomka, PhD and in collaboration with other scientists, physicians and engineers, the incumbent is responsible for the development of machine learning software methods in support of designated research project objectives. The incumbent analyses, designs and builds component-based applications including introduction of an application layer, modeling techniques, component and object-oriented design, complex algorithmic coding, and systematic approaches to application integration. The Programmer/Analyst works on new and existing applications, performs hands-on coding and assists in architecting solutions, and may serve as liaison to internal customers, research groups and various business support areas.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designs, develops, and supports applications written in various programming languages using current and new development technology including J2EE, JSP, Servlets, JavaScript, HTML, XML and Oracle.
  • Scopes, implements, tests and deploys new features and versions of core applications, databases, and utilities.
  • Debugs and maintains deployments of core applications, databases, and utilities.
  • Creates enhancements to primary and supporting websites, web applications, and infrastructures.
  • Creates component/subsystem documentation.
  • Translates customer requirements, recommends system solutions, and formulates detailed specifications from which programs are written.

Department-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develops software methods for deep learning analysis and segmentation of image data, and data reconstruction.
  • Develops and tests machine learning models for combined clinical and imaging variables.
  • Maintains the research imaging database for use by all research team personnel.
  • Supports scientists and postdoctoral fellows in the preparation of manuscripts and grants based on the developed software methods.
  • Actively collaborates with senior scientists on research projects and publications.
  • Integrates newly developed research features into research clinical prototypes; executes testing as needed.
  • Generates automated results generation and analyses as needed.
  • Actively participates in research meetings.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field is highly preferred.
  • 3 years of experience managing application design, software development, maintenance is required.
  • 4+ years of programming experience and 2+ years of experience in image processing, interactive imaging applications and/or computer vision is highly preferred.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with peers, patients, physicians, and other customers of the medical center.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or C++ programming.
  • Strong mathematics, statistics, and 3D geometry knowledge.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • System administration skills (Windows, and/or Mac OS X).
Physical demands:
Able to perform moderate lifting.  Able to sit, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.  Able to read papers and online documents.  Able to operate standard office equipment.  Able to exercise physical ability and perspective acuity to satisfactorily perform essential job functions.
