What will I be doing in this role?
This employee provides the crucial service of generating Magnetic Resonance Images of the body for diagnostic purposes with diagnostic imaging equipment, as advised by Radiologists, in accordance with the company policies and procedure manuals.
Department-Specific Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:
- Performs all exams related to MRI with skill, accuracy and in a timely manner.
- Coordinates all work done in the area surrounding MRI scanner. Screens all persons entering the MRI Zone 3 & 4 area appropriately and obtains signatures on appropriate documents.
- Transports patients into the MRI scan room and attends to patient health care while patient is in the Department ensuring all patient records are private and secure.
- Prepares patients for their test and ensures patient privacy at all times.
- Reviews MRI consent form; ensures patient brings no ferrous objects into the scan room.
- Ensures absence of medical conditions or implant and devices that may make the MRI test contraindicated.
- Assists in scheduling and authorizes any work to be done on the MRI scanner, as directed by Management.
- Maintains and sanitizes room, equipment and coils daily, maintaining safe workplace free of clutter.
- Operates the MRI equipment using proper MRI safety procedures.
- Evacuates patient properly in case of magnet quench and quenches magnet properly when required.
- Monitors cryogen levels and reports to Safety Officer when they are low.
- Follows all Material Safety Data Sheet procedures in the event of a cryogen quench.
- Monitor all area for all persons not MRI screened.
- Collaborates to problem solve and make decisions to achieve desired outcomes.
- Establishes effective working relationships with cross-functional team(s).
- Responds timely, effectively and appropriately to tasks.
Qualifications
Requirements:
High School Diploma/GED is required.
Completion of course in Radiologic technology approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT) is required.
One (1) year of experience as an MRI Technologist is required.
Six (6) months of fluoroscopy experience and GE 1.5HDX experience with strong musculoskeletal background is preferred.
Experience/Skills we are seeking:
- A wholistic knowledge of MRI principles is required, including awareness of hazards of excessive radiation exposure and MRI safety. Knowledge of lifting techniques for safety in moving patients and other lifting duties. Ability to work well and professionally with others is required. This includes all other personnel, including radiologists, referring physicians, co-workers and all levels of administration as well as patients and their relatives. Know location of material safety data sheets and know how to use the information contained in them. Ability to work day and evening shifts and occasional Saturdays.
- Ability to use discretion and maintain privacy, confidentiality or anonymity. Treats all information and data within the scope of the position with complete confidentiality and security.
- Stays abreast of innovative techniques with improvement of personal qualification through education programs, conferences workshops, and additional reading materials.
Licenses and Certifications:
Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) in the State of California, ARRTMR or ARMRIT, is required.
Current certification ARRT (R)with the American Registry of Radiology Technologists is preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) current CPR certification is required.
CA CRT and Flouroscopy is preferred.
