Dr. Anja Karlstaedt is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Cardiology within the Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Her current research program applies a systems biology framework to understand the metabolic intersections between cardiovascular diseases in cancer, focusing on hematologic malignancies and colorectal cancer. She has developed computational tools, including the first mammalian metabolic network - CardioNet, to integrate multi-omics datasets into basic discovery-oriented studies. Her collaborative efforts are reflected in her active research projects, for which she serves as the PI of NHLBI and Foundation-funded studies.

The internship will provide educational and career development opportunities in general laboratory techniques and cardiovascular research. The candidate will be trained in standard molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, westernblotting), physiological animal models and mass spectrometry-based metabolomics and flux analysis. In addition to technical skills, the candidate will develop project management skills, learn how to document experiments on a day-to-day basis, and analysis as well as interpretation of data
