Job Description
Job Summary
The Executive Director, Community Benefit Giving leads all aspects of the Community Giving Benefit Office (CBGO), Cedars-Sinai's grantmaking and sponsorship team. Establishes all strategy, processes, protocols, and Request for Proposal (RFP) structures, while leading the CBGO team through $20M-$30M in annual giving. Develops a best-in-class grantmaking program, including growth strategy, high-impact grantmaking, and a centralized philanthropic sponsorship hub to be a resource for the Cedars-Sinai Health System, and having direct responsibility for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Marina del Rey Hospital giving functions.
The Executive Director focuses principally on significant grantmaking initiatives to benefit Los Angeles communities. Manages staff carrying out sponsorship protocols and other grantmaking projects, including consultants, when applicable. Manages both the internal and external profile of Cedars-Sinai's community benefit giving, including representing Cedars-Sinai's grantmaking through local and national publications and convenings, in conjunction with Cedars-Sinai leadership. To further the efforts of Cedars-Sinai's community benefit mission, the Executive Director also fosters relationships with other grantmakers as well as current and prospective grantees, including leadership and expert representation in collaboratives. The Executive Director steward's relationships with internal partners related to the work of the office and oversees ongoing intra- and inter- departmental process rollouts relating to Cedars-Sinai's giving practice including management of an executive leadership review committee and relevant communication with the Community Benefit Committee of the Board of Directors.
Primary Duties & ResponsibilitiesProgram Strategy & Development
- Develops and oversees a best-in-class community benefit giving program with local, regional, and national strategies.
- Designs and implements a comprehensive evaluation and assessment process for grantmaking.
- Identifies community needs and establishes major grant initiatives and RFPs in partnership with the Vice President.
- Integrates and aligns social responsibility efforts related to impact investing.
- Facilitates long-term planning cycles for community impact strategy.
Grantmaking Operations
- Oversees coordination and implementation of all grantmaking programs and processes.
- Manages evaluation processes for prospective and current grantees, including site visits and reporting.
- Ensures timely design, development, and release of funding requests.
- Maintains strong community knowledge to inform philanthropic strategy.
- Manages organizational knowledge and metrics related to community impact.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Collaborates with internal stakeholders on funding recommendations, partnerships, and negotiation of grant agreements.
- Provides leadership content in partnership with Marketing & Communications to promote Cedars-Sinai’s community benefit work.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with grantees, community stakeholders, and national funders.
- Represents Cedars-Sinai at conferences and events to share innovations and best practices.
Leadership & Team Development
- Leads the hiring, training, and professional development of team members, interns, and consultants.
- Directly supervises team members and oversees grantmaking/sponsorship responsibilities.
- Develops cross-functional strategies with internal partners, including Cedars-Sinai Health System entities.
Qualifications
Work Experience
- Minimum:
- 10 years of relevant experience in community/public benefit programs, community relations, or health administration.
- At least 5 years of recent management experience, demonstrating strong leadership skills.
- Must possess deep knowledge in EITHER Housing/Homelessness OR Access to Care/FQHCs/Safety Net institutions
- Preferred:
- Additional leadership experience in strategic planning and cross-sector partnerships.
- Exposure to healthcare grantmaking or impact investing is a plus.
Education
- Minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or a related field.
- Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or a related field.
