What you will be doing in this role:

Under direct supervision, provides support to all day-to-day aspects of the care of Cedars-Sinai's arts collection, including assisting in the planning, development, research, and implementation of collection exhibitions, touring exhibitions and/or curated exhibitions organized with incoming donations, loans, or touring exhibitions. Responsible for a variety of curatorial and administrative tasks including exhibition research, planning, programs and events, managing contacts and correspondence, and artwork procurement when needed. Assists with the coordination of catalogs, didactic materials, and exhibition documentation, writing and editing exhibition-related copy, and registration activities.

  • Assists in the creation and management of art-related stories for the various publications, web site and social media outlets.
  • Assists in creating and curating exhibition plans for on-campus and off-campus locations throughout Cedars-Sinai. Assists in exhibition curation as directed, to include retrieval of materials, researching and verifying information, correspondence with lenders, artist, and donors, and generating exhibition copy.
  • Provides support to curatorial projects initiated within the department. This includes gathering and analyzing art historical and scholarly texts, visual and object location information, and budgetary data, compiled to initiate and implement exhibitions. Assists with the writing, editing, and researching of exhibition invitations, artist and project invite/procurement proposal packages, catalog publications, biographic and bibliographic material, wall labels, press releases, and exhibition fact sheets.
  • Obtains permissions and copyright clearance for images and maintains accurate credit lines.
  • On occasion may be asked to provide thought-provoking and educational tours of the art collection to promote the Art of Healing experience for patients, visitors and staff through the docent and video programs.
  • Assists leadership, the Chair of the Advisory Council for the Arts and subcommittee members in the preparation of reports and presentations for all Advisory Council for the Arts quarterly meetings, subcommittee meetings, special projects and various tasks and communications.
  • Assists leadership and the subcommittee Captains in managing the various subcommittees of the Advisory Council for the Arts. This will include oversight and management of the projects and tasks of the subcommittees.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day organization and administration of the Arts Program office. Accountable for the accuracy of all records and documentation. Interfacing closely with Arts Program staff, leadership and Advisory Council for the Arts Members. Efficiently maintaining accurate and up-to-date computer and manual records, and documentation of files.
  • Assists with managing department finances and budgets. Maintains departmental calendars. Attends meetings, generates meeting minutes, and keeps track of action items.
  • Collaborates to problem solve and make decisions to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with cross-functional team(s).
  • Responds timely, effectively and appropriately to deliverables.
  • Ensures practices and procedures are inclusive of interpersonal and cultural diversity.
  • Cultivates and maintains strong customer relationships and rapport with partners and/or client groups.

Qualifications

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in art history, museum studies, or another related field required.

A minimum of 3 years proven experience as a curator or assistant curator, or relevant support role in a museum, gallery, private collection or cultural organization required. 

Skills/Experience sought:

  • Extremely detail-oriented and exercise good judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to compose letters and communicate as a representative on behalf of the Arts Program office and Advisory Council for the Arts, strong writing and copy-editing skills.
  • Responsible for assembly and distribution of presentations, viewing and data collection as assigned.
  • Knowledge of museum and exhibition methods and practices, including the proven methods of developing, planning and implementing museum-quality exhibitions.
  • Computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office, various database management software, and Adobe Creative Suite or related software applications.
