Job Description
The Director, Design spearheads and oversees design projects; responsible for shaping the design strategy, maintaining design quality, and ensuring that design projects align with Cedars-Sinai's objectives and brand identity. Responsible for setting the look and feel of the Cedars-Sinai brand across mediums and channels. In doing so, the Director, Design creates the visual world of the brand. Leads and inspires the design team to make a difference in the lives of our B2B and B2C audiences with strong ideas and strong execution. Additionally, responsible for nurturing the quality and craft of the work of the entire design team. Directs and ensures that all projects and experiences are delivered on time, on budget and to the highest standards of quality.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides visionary leadership to the design team, setting the creative direction, nurturing and inspiring team to achieve their best work. Provides creative direction and guidance to designers, offering constructive feedback to enhance their work.
- Develops and implements design strategies that align with Cedars-Sinai's goals, brand identity, and market positioning. Distills abstract business concepts and client needs into elegant creative solutions. Sets the design strategy for the on-going evolution of the Cedars-Sinai brand.
- Sets clear and inspiring design direction across branding, communication, advertising, and strategy projects. Sets art direction for all types of projects through collaboration with photo/video team.
- Directs work across the full spectrum of digital and traditional mediums. Identifies new creative opportunities and refinement within existing projects.
- Oversees the execution of design projects from concept to completion, ensuring they meet quality standards, timelines, and budget constraints.
- Maintains high design standards and review design work to ensure it meets these standards and adheres to brand guidelines.
- Works closely with clients, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to understand project requirements, gather feedback, and ensure client satisfaction. Collaborates with peers and stakeholders to find new approaches and creative solutions to marketing, communications and strategy needs.
- Allocates and manages design resources, including designers, freelancers, and agencies, to meet project demands. Manages design budgets and resources effectively, optimizing costs while maintaining design quality.
- Presents design concepts and strategies to clients, executives, or stakeholders, effectively communicating the vision and rationale behind design decisions.
- Stays updated on design trends, emerging technologies, and industry best practices to incorporate innovative design solutions. Ensures that design and art direction trends are relevant to the Cedars-Sinai brand and the lives of our patients and professionals.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree Required in Experiential Design, Graphic Design, Visual Design, Advertising, Art, Visual Communication or a related field
- Master's Degree Preferred in Experiential Design, Graphic Design, Visual Design, Advertising, Art, Visual Communication or a related field
Work Experience
- 10 years minimum - Progressive experience in the design industry, agency, design studio, and/or in-house creative teams with a proven track record of successful design projects.
- 3 years minimum - Design leadership experience.
