What will you be doing in this role?
The Team Leader provides leadership in the daily operations of a Pathology and Laboratory Medicine division or section. In this capacity, the Team Leader is responsible for maintaining daily staffing and scheduling; coaching, orientation of new staff; troubleshooting and problem-solving customer complaints; staff development; and assistance in monitoring and evaluating performance by providing input to the manager, participating in communication of evaluations and corrective actions. May perform the job duties of the laboratory constituency for whom the Team Leader provides direction. Performs all job duties with sensitivity and attention to the patient population(s) served.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership in daily operations, by providing support in the assignment of work, orientation, coaching, and training.
- May contribute input into staff performance and competency evaluation, discipline, hiring, and termination of employment.
- Works in concert with senior staff to maintain division readiness for accreditation and licensure.
- Interacts with other ancillary departments to address issues and serves on committees such as QA, Safety and LIS as needed.
- Provides for the appropriate educational experience of laboratory inters/residents assigned to the division.
- Participates in developing business and operational plans and in the evaluation and introduction of new procedures and instruments; writes and revises technical procedures.
- Handles special projects or assignments as assigned.
- Performs routine and complex laboratory tests or procedures using approved SOPs and protocols.
- Uses established quality assurance SOPs to ensure proper functioning of instruments and analytical procedures, records control data and instrument maintenance functions.
- Reviews and ensures reliability of results based on quality control and assurance mechanisms; takes corrective action as necessary.
- Recognizes problems in test methodology, quality control and instrument function and initiates problem-solving activities and corrective action procedures.
Qualifications
Educational Requirements:
- Baccalaureate degree with an ASCP Board of Registry specialist certification in an appropriate specialty, or equivalent education and experience.
- Master’s degree in a biological science, chemistry, or medical technology is preferred.
Experience Requirements:
- Five (5) years of relevant clinical experience with at least three (3) years in specialty.
- Some experience in supervision and teaching, as well as professional involvement such as membership on committees, presentation at conferences, desirable.
