The Clinical Research Data Specialist II manages the data for assigned research studies. The incumbent will be involved in the design, development and building of ground breaking medical imaging systems in addition to being part of the team conducting clinical trials. The role will provide an outstanding opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team involving optical engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, biomedical engineers as well as surgeons and other medical personnel. The Clinical Research Data Specialist II will participate in the development and possible commercialization of medical device technology. In addition, the position will offer experience with other technicians, with clinical trials, collecting clinical data, and following clinical protocols. The position will also provide opportunity to work on medical technology with far reaching and immediate impact on patients’ lives. Working under direct supervision, the incumbent performs routine and increasingly complex laboratory tasks and procedures and develops technical expertise in one or more areas relevant to research projects. The talent in this position will participate in research activities involving all aspects of the research process, to include, but not limited to; development design, investigation, technical, testing/validation of results, and report findings (including developing independent presentations). The Clinical Research Data Specialist II will observe and follow safety standards and procedures, assist in preparation of data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings, and assist in general laboratory maintenance. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • May work with bioinformatics in the development and maintenance of clinical trials management systems including validation of systems.
  • May train clinical research staff to help improve the quality of the data being collected.
  • May solve operational/data problems in consultation with other employees and/or supervisors.
  • May perform basic statistical analysis in conjunction with a biostatistician.
  • Manages data for research studies.
  • Designs forms for data collection and performs clinical data abstraction.
  • Develop machine learning (ML/AI) models for classification using biological signals.
  • Develop neural network models for classification of time-series signals.
  • Processes clinical data using a range of computer applications and database systems to support cleaning and management of subject or patient data.
  • Produces project reports.
  • Maintains the accuracy, integrity, and security of complex, large computerized records systems.
  • Performs data searches and other related administrative tasks.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal and local agencies including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and local Institutional Review Board.
  • Maintains research practices using Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality according to HIPAA regulations and applicable law.

Department-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains scalable python backend system code using best system architectural practices.
  • Develops and maintains frontend system using either PyQt or cross platform UI system of your choice.
  • Collaborates with engineering team to propose technical solutions to build and scale our clinical software system.


Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) is required.
  • Master of Science degree or PhD in a related Science degree are preferred.

Experience:

  • 2+ years of relevant experience in a similar position is required.
  • Experience with C, C++, or Rust.
  • Extensive hands-on experience developing Python based front-end and back-end systems.
  • Proficient-level DevOps experience in either AWS, GCS or similar to stand-up a system.
  • Understanding of security best practices for an API system.

Physical Demands:

Position requires working with computers for extended periods and the use of specialized laboratory equipment. Must be able to sit, stand and/or stoop for long periods. Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds.
