What will you be doing in this role?

The Level I HLA Technician is a member of the HLA laboratory staff and operates with close supervision. As much as ninety (90%) percent of the time is spent performing routine tasks requiring entry level cognitive, manipulative, and problem-solving skills. Tasks involve operating and QC-ing test equipment, conducting basic level tests, collaborating with other hospital departments. Additional duties include general support functions vital for the routine operation of laboratory activities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working under supervision of a Licensed CLS,
  • Performs routine serum processing and DNA extraction with strong attention to precision and accuracy 
  • Operates laboratory equipment used in processing. 
  •  Competent in logging patient sera samples in the laboratory computer system and generation of a work list and patient labels.  
  • Follow current laboratory practices (in serology and DNA section) to prevent sample switch, and patient sample contamination. 
  • Assist in equipment temperature monitoring by the alarm system 
  • Assist in answering phone call and emails  
  • Assist in sample pick up from hospital. 
  • Perform weekly, and monthly equipment maintenance and upkeep.

  • Assist in laboratory supply inventory, putting away supplies, making gels and reagent aliquoting.
  • Maintain cell, sera, and DNA inventory. 
  • Assist in collection of research samples 
  • Provide support to clinical laboratory scientist in reagent aliquoting, labeling tubes and other duties assigned 


Qualifications

Job qualifications Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a biological science (biology, immunology, cell biology, microbiology) required

Work Experience

No experience required, but applicants with some experience in a clinical or research laboratory preferred.
