Job Description

TheJim and Eleanor Randall Department of Surgery at Cedars-Sinai seeks a nationally recognized plastic surgeon and visionary leader to serve as Division Director of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. This leadership role offers the opportunity to guide one of the nation's premier academic plastic surgery programs, overseeing a broad portfolio of reconstructive, microsurgical, craniofacial, hand, gender-affirming, aesthetic, and complex wound reconstruction services. The Division Director will shape the strategic direction of the division while advancing Cedars-Sinai's missions of clinical excellence, innovation, education, research, and community impact.

About the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery


The Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Cedars-Sinai is recognized for its multidisciplinary approach to complex reconstructive and aesthetic care. The division collaborates closely with leading programs in Cancer, Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery, Head and Neck Surgery, Breast Surgery, Dermatology, Trauma, Transplantation, and Pediatrics to provide comprehensive patient-centered care.

The division is home to one of the nation's leading reconstructive microsurgery programs, with 10 fellowship-trained microsurgeons performing the full spectrum of complex reconstructive microsurgery. It has developed the largest robot-assisted microsurgical program in the western United States and the second largest in the nation, reflecting Cedars-Sinai's commitment to advancing surgical innovation and technology. The division also maintains the largest lymphedema and peripheral nerve reconstruction programs in the western United States, serving as a major regional and national referral center for complex reconstructive care.

Faculty include internationally recognized surgeon-scientists who are supported by a robust federally funded research enterprise. Collectively, division faculty produce approximately 50 to 100 peer-reviewed publications annually, spanning translational science, clinical outcomes, innovation, and surgical education. This academic environment provides exceptional opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration, discovery, and the development of future leaders in plastic surgery.

The Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery plays a central role in graduate medical education as a core rotation for the University of Southern California (USC) Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency Program. The division also sponsors the Randy Sherman Global Reconstructive Microsurgery Fellowship, supporting both clinical and research fellows dedicated to advancing reconstructive microsurgery worldwide. In addition, the division currently trains two microsurgery fellows and one peripheral nerve surgery fellow, reinforcing its longstanding commitment to excellence in advanced subspecialty education.

Key clinical areas include:

  • Breast reconstruction, including microsurgical and implant-based reconstruction

  • Complex microsurgery and free tissue transfer

  • Robot-assisted microsurgery

  • Lymphedema surgery

  • Peripheral nerve surgery and reconstruction

  • Craniofacial and facial reconstructive surgery

  • Hand and upper-extremity reconstruction

  • Gender-affirming surgery

  • Complex wound management and limb salvage

  • Post-oncologic reconstruction

  • Aesthetic and cosmetic surgery

The division is supported by advanced surgical technology, dedicated operating room resources, multidisciplinary clinics, and a strong institutional commitment to innovation and outcomes research. Faculty are actively engaged in clinical trials, translational research, surgical education, and national leadership roles within the specialty.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic, academic, and operational leadership for all divisional activities.

  • Develop and execute a long-term vision for growth across clinical programs, research, and education.

  • Recruit, retain, mentor, and promote outstanding faculty and future leaders.

  • Strengthen multidisciplinary partnerships throughout Cedars-Sinai and affiliated programs.

  • Expand research initiatives, clinical trials, innovation programs, and external funding opportunities.

  • Promote excellence in quality, patient safety, patient experience, and health equity.

  • Oversee divisional finances, resource allocation, faculty productivity, and program performance metrics.

  • Represent the division at institutional, regional, and national levels.

Academic and Research Leadership

  • Supporting faculty scholarship and career development.

Our compensation philosophy

We offer competitive total compensation that includes pay, benefits, and other incentive programs for our employees.  The total pay range shown takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including knowledge/skills; relevant experience and training; education/certifications/licensure; and other business and organizational factors.  This total pay range includes any incentive payments that may be applicable to this role. We also offer a comprehensive faculty benefits package. Pay Range: $765,000 - $1,020,000 total cash compensation.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree.

  • Board certification in Plastic Surgery.

  • Eligibility for unrestricted California medical licensure.

  • Academic credentials suitable for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level.

  • Demonstrated success leading clinical, academic, and research programs.

  • Record of scholarly achievement, faculty development, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

  • Experience managing complex healthcare operations, budgets, and strategic initiatives.
