This intern will be working in the Office of Health Equity, primarily with the Community Connect Program. The Community Connect Program is a cross-departmental program that aims to increase patient health by addressing the nonmedical factors that influence health through assessment and linkages to community-based providers. The intern will be working under more direct supervision the Program Manager for The Community Connect Program.
What will you learn in this internship?
The Community Connect Internship role will provide current graduate students the opportunity to gain exposure to many different roles in the field of Public Health, roles within the health system, and in the community. Through this role the intern will gain valuable insight into the intersection of social determinants of health and health outcomes of a community. Some specific objectives include but are not limited to: expand knowledge of basic public health and health services practices, Increase awareness of the complexity of the problems and concerns involved in the public health and health services arena, facilitate a stronger understanding of the relationships among public health organizations and other health service organizations, and increase appreciation of cultural differences in populations served by public health and health services professionals. Some examples of specific skills that the intern will be trained on and learn throughout this practicum include but are not limited to:
- Community Partnership Development and Community Capacity Building
- Data Collection and Analysis
- Developing reports to effectively summarize literature, policy, and technical brief findings.
- Leveraging systems-level thinking strategies to create evidence-based recommendations for program improvement.
- Designing multidisciplinary educational materials to promote awareness of program interventions.
This internship runs from August 2025 – December 2025.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:
- Be 18 years of age or older and have a minimum of a bachelor's degree, preferably in psychology, public health, community health, or a related field.
- Have transportation to travel daily to community sites.
- Reside in the greater Los Angeles area or surrounding cities while conducting all activities related to the intern appointment.
- Be computer literate, this includes solid understanding of Windows or comparable system, presentation development, email, browsers, spreadsheets, etc.
Preferred Education & Experience:
- Currently enrolled in a graduate public health program with an accredited school of public health preferred. Preferred fields are Public Health, Evaluation, Community Health, Public Policy or a related field.
- Minimum of two years’ experience working in community health settings preferred
- Ability to manage multiple assignments
- Ability to use sound judgment in a well-organized manner
- Attention to detail and ability to work well with colleagues, senior staff and community partners
- Competency with biostatistics and/or evaluation methods highly preferred.
