Overview of Department and Mentor:
Dr. Ibrahim’s lab occupies 700 sq ft of dedicated bench space, as well as shared access to significant resources including two additional rooms (including a dedicated virus room) totaling 1,155 sq ft with 6 dedicated tissue hoods and associated incubators. The shared resources further include a spinning disk confocal microscope, a Leica two-photon microscope, a FACS machine, a nano-tracking analysis system (for sizing and quantifying extracellular vesicles), and a small-animal surgical suite, as well as a broad array of molecular, genetic, and physiological equipment that suffice to accommodate the needs of the present project. Common equipment areas (1,024 sq ft) accommodate 30 freezers (-20°C & -80°C), 2 cold rooms, and 4 ultracentrifuges.
Role Summary & Objectives

Working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with the Dr. Ibrahim and other Research Scientists, the Visiting Graduate student will perform routine and sophisticated laboratory procedures throughout training period. May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols. Analyzes and interprets data. May assist in preparation of grant proposals. Participates in publications and presentations as author or co-author. Not responsible for generating grant funds.
Role Activities:
- May participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
- Will participate in weekly 1:1 meetings, lab meetings, journal club and department research meetings.
- Designs and performs experiments. Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyze the results with Dr. Ibrahim.
- Analyzes interpret, summarizes, and compiles data.
- Performs routine and sophisticated laboratory procedures throughout the training period.
- Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.
- Currently enrolled in a PhD Program
- The Cedars-Sinai Visiting Scholar Program supports scholars in research areas only.
- Visiting scholars are often current students, postdoctoral scholars, or faculty who are coming to Cedars-Sinai for research training, collaboration, contribution, and teaching. They have funding support from their home institution or another supporting agency. Their visiting scholar role will be determined based on their education status, role at their home institution, and proposed scholar activities.
